Founded in 1997, URWERK set out to redefine haute horlogerie by merging traditional watchmaking with a bold, forward-looking vision. The name itself reaches beyond Switzerland. “UR” refers to the ancient Mesopotamian city where humanity first began measuring time, while “WERK,” the German word for work, reflects creation, craftsmanship, and the power to evoke emotion.
At its core, URWERK is dedicated to designing and producing exceptional timepieces that challenge convention, combining heritage techniques with futuristic design to reshape how time is experienced.

Each creation challenges tradition, blending precision mechanics with avant-garde creativity.
Time, Reimagined
URWERK is an independent Swiss watchmaker known for producing highly limited, technically advanced timepieces that prioritise innovation and craftsmanship. Each watch is developed in-house with a strong focus on precision, materials, and mechanical originality.
Defined by its unconventional displays and bold design language, URWERK reimagines how time is read—blending engineering with artistic expression to create watches that feel more like kinetic sculptures than traditional instruments.

Urwerk
It all started at a student party
The idea took shape over beer and rock music. The founders, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, shared a passion for reimagining timekeeping that sparked a deeper creative partnership.
From the outset, URWERK has operated as a creative laboratory, exploring new ways to display time through unconventional mechanisms such as wandering hours. By merging centuries-old craftsmanship with futuristic design, the brand continues to push the boundaries of haute horlogerie, creating timepieces that transform the measurement of time into a dynamic and immersive experience.
