The name itself reaches beyond Switzerland. “UR” refers to the ancient Mesopotamian city where humanity first began measuring time, while “WERK,” the German word for work, reflects creation, craftsmanship, and the power to evoke emotion.

The idea took shape over beer and rock music. The founders, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, shared a passion for reimagining timekeeping that sparked a deeper creative partnership.
