Geneva, November 2025 – Marking ten years since the revival of its historic name, Czapek returns to the future with the Time Jumper, powered by the new in-house Calibre 10. A contemporary interpretation of guilloché craftsmanship adorns the futuristic 40.5mm steel case. At the same time, the half-hunter cover plays a delicate game of hide and seek with both the time indication and the open-worked movement beneath.

Released as a limited edition of 100 pieces in stainless steel and 30 pieces in 3N 18-carat gold, the Time Jumper will be unveiled at Czapek’s 10th Anniversary Celebration in Geneva on November 12, gathering the brand’s community of “Rare People” from around the world.

Reimagining François Czapek’s 19th-century pocket watches in a playful, avant-garde form, the Time Jumper centres around a jumping hour complication displaying 24 hours on two sapphire discs – a world première featuring a patent-pending mechanism – complemented by trailing minutes on a peripheral ring. The half-hunter showcases a new three-dimensional guilloché pattern that creates the optical illusion of a black hole, with its event horizon forming a central loupe revealing the open-worked complication. Opening the cover unveils the movement in full, protected beneath sapphire crystal glass.

“Our goal with the Time Jumper was to rethink the expression of time and bring something new and fresh to the table,” says CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel. “We’ve long wanted to explore time indications without traditional hands, and a jumping hour was one way to do that. Yet most jumping hour displays look similar — we wanted to express the complication in our own, different way.”

The result captures Czapek’s philosophy of having its “head in the sky, feet on the ground.” The flying saucer-style case embodies retro-futuristic imagination, while its traditional round form recalls the pocket watches that defined the brand’s 19th-century origins.

Space Oddity: Calibre 10 and the Next Decade

For its tenth anniversary, one might expect Czapek to unveil a complex movement showcasing its horological prowess. Instead, in typical contrarian spirit, the Maison chose simplicity — hours and minutes only, but with a display unlike any other.

The conceptual heart of Calibre 10 lies in the idea of exploring and dissolving the space-time continuum. The nine previous calibres from Czapek were reinterpretations of classical complications, modernised through the brand’s distinctive aesthetic language. Calibre 10 represents a new era: a foundation movement designed to host a series of future complications, each fully integrated rather than modular. Every future evolution of Calibre 10 will be entirely redesigned and re-engineered, staying true to the spirit of haute horlogerie.

To achieve this, the movement had to be self-winding, compact in both diameter and height (small enough for 36mm cases), and highly adaptable in architecture. This approach not only allows aesthetic variation but also improves mechanical efficiency, as traditional modular stacks increase friction and reduce both power reserve and precision.

The Machine Behind the Magic

The Calibre 10 architecture begins with a centrally mounted winding rotor made of recycled 950 platinum, skeletonised to offer an uninterrupted view of the movement. The layout is fluid and harmonious – “very Czapek” – with elegant curves, concentric bridges, and the distinctive geometry of the rotor’s compass-shaped arms anchoring the structure. The movement’s five-spoke wheels with diamond-bevelled edges are a refined Czapek signature.

The Calibre 10.1, debuting in the Time Jumper, features a central jumping hour display on a 24-hour register, paired with trailing minutes on a rotating peripheral ring. The two sapphire hour discs – one for single digits, one for tens – offer a uniquely architectural reading of time. The 24-hour format complements the watch’s “astronaut’s instrument” aesthetic and departs from traditional 12-hour displays.

Finishing is of the highest order: rhodium-coated bridges gleam against blackened plates, creating the impression of light over deep space. Traditional negative engraving on the rotor contrasts with laser-engraved minutes and hours, the latter filled with Super-LumiNova for legibility in the dark.

Representing another leap in Czapek’s technical evolution, Calibre 10.1 was designed, conceived, and assembled in-house, with 75% of components machined internally. While not pursuing full vertical integration, Czapek remains committed to the établissage philosophy — partnering with the finest specialists while maintaining the freedom and agility afforded by in-house expertise.

Designing the Future: The Techno-Futuristic Habillage

The Time Jumper’s design reflects its conceptual theme of dissolving space and time. Its techno-futuristic habillagetakes inspiration from mid-20th century science fiction, where the flying saucer became a symbol of imagination and discovery — a subject that fascinated CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel in his youth.

The half-hunter case echoes 19th-century pocket watches, linking past and future. Collaborating with designer Thomas Funder, Czapek explored the tension between balance and imbalance, symmetry and asymmetry, beauty and strangeness — a recurring aesthetic duality in the Maison’s creations.

“We wanted an avant-garde and uncompromising design without being extreme – different from other Czapek models yet still a clear expression of our aesthetic codes,” adds Xavier.

The jumping hour display led the design process, dictating the style of the minute indication, which appears through an aperture (guichet) – inspiring the half-hunter concept. With the cover closed, attention focuses on the central hour window, magnified beneath the bubble-shaped loupe resembling a cockpit dome. Opening the cover reveals the full mechanical performance below.

Straight lines are rare in this design language. Crafted by AB Concept, the case is smooth and aerodynamic, reminiscent of a polished pebble. Curves define every detail: from the oval push-button that releases the cover, to the rounded lugs, the semi-hidden notched crown, and even the buckle, where straight edges are minimised.

The guilloché pattern on the cover, developed by Czapek’s historic partner Metalem, introduces a hypnotic visual layer. Building on the Singularité guilloché seen on the Antarctique Tourbillon, this exclusive new pattern evokes a vortex spiralling into a black hole, reinforcing the watch’s cosmic narrative.

Completing the story, the presentation box mirrors the design of the watch itself — a flying saucer-shaped case crafted in sandblasted aluminium with delicate polished accents.

Limited to 180 Calibres – A Tribute to 180 Years of Heritage

To commemorate the 180th anniversary of Czapek’s founding in Geneva, 1845, the Maison will produce exactly 180 Calibre 10.1 movements. The Time Jumper debuts as 100 pieces in stainless steel and 30 pieces in 3N 18-carat gold, with the remaining calibres reserved for special projects, including 10 bespoke pieces available on request.
