TOURBILLON PLATINUM
The Tourbillon Platinum, elevating the collection through one of the rarest materials
Sharing the same design codes as earlier Daniel Roth creations, the use of platinum introduces an added sense of rarity that already defines the collection. Long regarded as one of the most noble materials in watchmaking, platinum demands exceptional skill and specialised tooling to shape. Each case requires up to three times longer to craft than its 18k gold counterpart, highlighting the complexity and dedication behind its construction.
A dialogue between tradition and innovation through the calibre DR001
Developed in 2023, the DR001 is the shaped movement explicitly created for the Tourbillon collection and maintains the signature double ellipse case form. Each of the 206 components is finished in-house by hand under the supervision of master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. A sapphire crystal case back reveals the movement’s artistry and showcases the hallmarks of Swiss haute horlogerie.
The art of guillochage
Platinum, one of the most demanding metals to shape, underscores the dial’s discreet yet intricate complexity. The dial of the Tourbillon Platinum is crafted from solid white gold and finished in an anthracite tone, serving as a canvas for the pinstripe guilloché. Each line is engraved by hand using a traditional straight-line engine within the guillochage workshop at La Fabrique du Temps.
Matthieu Hegi, Artistic Director of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, remarks, “Naturally, the esteemed reputation of platinum makes it irresistible. When it came time to animate the Tourbillon in a white metal, one thing was certain, it had to be platinum.”
